The California Red-Legged Frog as an
"Indicator Species"




        The population of the California Red-Legged Frog has been drastically reduced over the past 100 years. The physical state of the California Red-Legged Frog in the Bay-Delta is declining. The California Red-Legged Frog is considered to be an “indicator species”. The healthiness of the California Red-Legged Frog population and the healthiness of the environment have shown to go hand-in-hand. The decline of the California Red-Legged Frog in the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding the Bay-Delta has shown that their environment, in some places, is no longer a healthy and safe place to live.
